Globe Trotting and New Beginnings

End of my big Texas Journey…

Posted on: July 25, 2009

The Journey that started in 2004 from Buffalo when I had graduated from college without a clue about what I wanted from life or what I wanted to do is coming to an end.

At that time, I read this saying somewhere –
When you come to the end of all the light you know, and it’s time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: Either you will be given something solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly.

-Edward Teller

I did what seemed right to me then and moved to Texas where I had a cousin and no friends with the hope that I will find what I was looking for. I did…

This wonderful jouney complete with it’s ups and downs has turned me into the person that I currently am.

These 5 years have been monumental in terms of my growth and have completely changed and redefined the person that I was (all in good ways of course)

  • I found out that bbq is a cuisine in Texas and not just hot dogs and burgers on a grill.
  • I discovered that nature is not really that bad 🙂 A spider bite in the second week after moving to Texas, “Garden” snakes outside my home and being stung by a baby scorpion inside my home. I am surprisingly calm and cannot believe that this is ME dealing with all this SO calmly 🙂
  • I was introduced to Toobing in a real river…
  • I found true love and married him. The saying Made for each other couldn’t possibly be true-er.
  • Sahir and I went to Peru for our Honeymoon Yes, Machu Picchu is THAT amazing!
  • Sahir and I adopted 2 beautiful cats who complete our lives, so much so that I have absolutely no recollection of a life before cats.
  • I learnt football… YES! I know what a linebacker and a defensive lineman is!
  • Sahir and I bought our first home in Austin.
  • I rediscovered my passion for biking. I missed biking a lot. I am so happy I started biking again. I won’t stop again, I promise!
  • I found out that I can run! Two 10K’s for someone who hadn’t ever run in her life is not bad. My goal is to run a marathon by end of 2010!
  • I met some really wonderful people and have made some lasting friendships.
  • Sahir and I went for FIFA 2006 in Germany and we have tickets for FIFA 2010 in South Africa. 🙂

And now, it’s that time again…to start fresh with new beginnings, we are about to embark on the trip of a lifetime. We are quiting our jobs and backpacking/travelling the world (well…a big part of it) from September this year for about 4-5 months. After we are done we will move to Canada where Sahir will start MBA school.

Moving back to the Northeast has definitely been a very important goal for me.  I have realized that I  definitely enjoy all 4 seasons and cooler weather(though a bit extreme –  we’ll see how Sahir deals with it!)

This time around I am excited to see what life holds for us. I recently read this on a Dove chocolate wrapper which has boosted confidence in our decision –

You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.

So, here we are… on our way to discover new oceans 🙂

What Sahir said. New oceans and different shores, and I hope you love all the calm and stormy waters that come with your new journeys. You’re living the once in a lifetime life, and I couldn’t be happier for you.

Maybe somedays our own oceans will find crossroads and we’ll swap our stories then 🙂
